ＪＩＣＡなどが日本住血吸虫症の制圧のための医療協力を進める中で、そのカウンターパートとなったのが、レイテ島に設置されたThe Schistosomiasis Control and Research Hospitalであった。このセンターでは、日本住血吸虫症の患者などの治療が行われるとともに、ＪＩＣＡなどから派遣された日本人の研究者が滞在して、フィリピン側のスタッフとともに日本住血吸虫症の流行をめぐる疫学的な研究とともに対策を進めた。ＪＩＣＡが進めた対策は、日本の対策を基礎としたものであった。
今回のプロジェクトでは、この機関で住血対策に従事した日本人研究者とともに、住血対策に従事したフィリピン人のスタッフからも聴き取り調査を行った。

In the JICA project to control schistosomiasis in the Philippines especially in the Leyte islands, the Schistosomiasis Control and Research Hospital was established as the counterpart of the JICA project.
In this Hospital, the patients of schistosomiasis were treated and the Japanese staffs of the JICA made the basic research work with the scholars of Philippine side.
The AIDH project made a research on the materials of the Schistosomiasis Control and Research Hospital and also conducted an oral interview with its staffs both the scholars of Japan and Philippines.
